The UK Government's Department of Transport (DfT) oversees the delivery of a reliable, safe and secure transport system that responds efficiently to the needs of individual and business whilst safeguarding the environment. The DfT website, www.dft.gov.uk, is a key media channel for communicating with a range of stakeholders and is therefore an integral part of the Department’s Communication Strategy.
The DfT is committed to meeting the Government’s targets of delivering 100% of government services online. Traditionally, the Department’s websites have been managed disparately. As part of the DfT’s commitment to the Shared Services Agenda, they sought a solution which would simplify the management of multiple websites, and after a review of 22 content management systems, the DfT chose Alterian Content Manager.
“Alterian Content Manager was well put together. It had the functionality we wanted for the re-structuring of the sites, but it also included a government specific solution called the government site pack. This was characterised by a number of features which are important for central government departments and agencies and demonstrated a significant depth of understanding, borne from many years experience, of how government IT really works” commented the Head of e-communications at DfT
